SUMMARY:Farm the Future: Bali Greenhouse Experience
DESCRIPTION:A different experience of Kintamani trip that provides an insight into the art of greenhouse farming at an international standard greenhouse facility set out on Bali’s highland. \nStep into the world of a greenhouse farmer in Bali. Bali Fresh Farm (PT.DIF) grows a variety of paprika in their wonderful greenhouse facility. Contrary to general knowledge which limits understanding of paprika as bell pepper or capsicum we usually find in salads or Asian stir-fry\, a visit to this greenhouse facility opens the window of knowledge into the vast variety of pepper family. Different shapes from the commonly found bell pepper\, the extra-large chili shape ‘sweet point’ and the short plump ‘sweet bite’ to name a few. They come in many colors (aside from the usual green\, red and yellow) such as orange\, aubergine-purple to dark chocolate and even the rare white that we have never seen. These array of peppers present different taste too\, some are sweeter than others but some can be really hot like the small chili ! \nThere are several large greenhouse domes here\, the largest was about 1\,700 square meter and 7-meter high\, each is carefully designed and operated to provide a perfect environment for every phase of the plant growth from seeds to harvest. Inside\, an impressive view of thousands of paprika plants arranged in straight lines with implanted watering system and updated hanging record-tags tells us that proper farming operation is actually a form of science. \nBali Fresh Farm is also proud to be a part of the local community. This almost 9\,000-square meter farm has a team of female-farmers recruited from nearby villages. They are empowered with knowledge and skills required to produce high quality product fit for European standards. Neighboring local farmers benefit from the fertilized soil of the greenhouse brought to them after harvest time in the greenhouse domes. \nParticipating in this program will provide you with a different perspective towards farming\, and an amazing experience of harvesting perfect paprika fruits in an ideal greenhouse environment.

SUMMARY:Bali Starling & West Bali National Park Experience
DESCRIPTION:Watch Bali Starlings’ behavior in their natural habitat and experience the sight & sound of West Bali National Park as well as the wildlife that lives in it. \nThis program takes place in West Bali National Park\, the natural habitat of Bali Starling (Leucopsar rothschildi). It is a vast protected conservation area consisting of lowland forest\, savannah\, mountainous Prapat Agung peninsula\, mangroves and surrounding coastal waters. Here we will be able to observe its natural behavior and how this critically endangered bird species interact in colony. In 2012\, a study calculated that there were only a concerning number of 24 adult birds left in this protected area. Various measures were done by Bali government working together with various conservation organizations to increase the population of Bali Starling in their natural habitat. A more recent study conducted in 2020 counted an increased number of 355 adult birds sighted here. \nApart from the famous Bali Starling\, West Bali Natural Park is also home to javan deer (Rusa timorensis)\, southern red muntjac / barking deer (Muntiacus muntjak)\, leopard cat\, wild bull / banteng (Bos javanicus)\, grey macaque (Macaca fascicularis)\, javan banded pitta (Hydrornis guajanus)\, black-naped oriole (Oriolus chinensis)\, numerous sea birds and many more. \nWest Bali Natural Park is located in the Buleleng regency. It occupies over 19\,000 hectares at the north-westerly point of Bali island. The closest tourist area is Sanur which is around 4-hour drive. There are quite a number of hotels around the national park. Staying at one of these nearby hotels a night prior to the program day is highly advisable as it would allow enough time to rest prior to spending the day at the national park which will require a lot of walking. It is a long way but definitely worth exploring.
