SUMMARY:Bali Starling Conservation Experience
DESCRIPTION:Learn about Bali Starling\, the threats that brought them to the brink of extinction and the conservation efforts currently being done to sustain their existence. \nBali Starling (Leucopsar rothschildi)\, or also known as Bali Myna\, is a beautiful bird species endemic to Bali. This bird is regarded as the mascot of Bali. Its feathers are pure white and the skin around its eyes are of distinctive sapphire blue color. The white crest on their heads is a unique feature that stands up when they are happy or feeling competitive. \nThe beauty of Bali Starling has made this rare bird species widely sought after for caged-bird trade\, causing illegal trapping which has brought this avian species to the critically endangered stage in the IUCN conservation status (International Union for Conservation of Nature). The loss of habitat due to illegal logging is making the situation more difficult for Bali Starling to survive\, let alone to increase population. \nNumerous efforts were taken by the government working together with various conservation organizations that fight for Bali Starling’s survival. Captive breeding program was introduced in several areas in Bali to support the population inside the West Bali National Park which is the original habitat of Bali Starling. As a result\, the number of individuals identified in the wild has shown a good increase\, but it is still a long way if we are to improve the conservation status of the Bali Starling from ‘critically endangered’ to ‘endangered’. \nThis Bali Starling Experience program takes you to Utu village in Tabanan\, one of the areas appointed to carry out the captive breeding program of Bali Starling. It also gives an opportunity to visit Pura Luhur Besikalung – temple in the forest\, and on the way back enjoy the wonderful scenery of Jatiluwih rice-terraces (traditional irrigation system called Subak)\, a UNESCO world heritage site. \n

SUMMARY:Bali Coral Conservation Experience
DESCRIPTION:Discover the fascinating facts of coral reefs and why it is crucial for us to keep them healthy and alive. Participate in various fun ways to support the global coral conservation movement. \nThe coral reefs are also known as the tropical forest of the sea as it releases oxygen by regulating carbon dioxide. Other functions of the coral reefs include: act as shelter and habitat for over 100\,000 species of fish and other marine creatures\, provide enormous fishery source to over 500 million people across the world\, protect shore lines from storms and waves\, attract tourism\, and an incredible genetic reservoir of untapped pharmaceutical opportunities. \nMany of the coral reefs we see now have been around for over 5\,000 years. Unfortunately\, 60% of the coral reefs in the world is facing serious threats which are sea pollution\, global warming\, drilling\, fish explosive\, over-fishing\, development of the beach and canals. \nJoin our coral conservation experience to understand the importance of coral reefs and how we can help to make the ocean a better place for all. \n

SUMMARY:Bali Sea Turtle Conservation Experience
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the sea turtles and join the conservation efforts at a turtle center in Bali to give this ancient species a better chance of survival. \nBali’s coastal line is a nesting habitat for sea turtles. Each year from April to October\, female turtles come up and lay their eggs in almost the exact location where they hatched some thirty to forty years ago. Sea turtles species commonly found nesting in Bali are the olive ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea) and green (Chelonia mydas). Sometimes we see hawksbill turtles emerged. Feral animals and human predation of turtle eggs\, fishing accidents\, beach development and misleading artificial lights are the major threats to sea turtles in these areas. \nSea turtle conservation community in Bali continuously does egg-rescue\, beach-cleaning\, provide hatching facility and treatment for injured turtles to sustain the existence of this ancient air-breathing marine reptile. Most turtle centers here are simple and operate based on donations and volunteer supports. \nParticipating in our Bali Sea Turtle Experience gives you an opportunity to support local conservation efforts and first-hand experience of working with sea turtles.
